Church of the Holy Crucifix

The Church of the Holy Crucifix in Calatafimi-Segesta is one of the town’s most important religious buildings, dedicated to the local patron saint. Its construction dates back to the mid-18th century, on a promontory overlooking the town, lending it a sense of protection. The exterior architecture is neoclassical, while the richly decorated interiors are Baroque. The single nave measures approximately 40 meters long and 10 meters wide, with a height of almost 20 meters.

Inside the sanctuary are extraordinary works of art, including 18th-century paintings of the Madonna and Child and Saint Albert, as well as statues and canvases adorning the walls. The façade, rebuilt in the late 19th century, retains its original stylistic features. The church is also the center of annual celebrations in honor of the Holy Crucifix, which include a solemn procession and festivities that recall local traditions and folklore.
